3jLib1 | UI Extension Library for FlyWithLua Version 1.4
What is 3jLib1?
An extension library for FlyWithLua scripts. Please download and install this only, if you want to install any plugin that requires 3jLib1.
This plugin uses some unofficial control parameters (so called “DataRefs”) of X-Plane. Though this is kind of a hack and something a programmer should not do normally, I did it because the effect of the plugin is really cool.
These unofficial DataRefs are undocumented and can change with every release or update of X-Plane. So it is not guaranteed at all, that this plugin will work with later X-Plane versions. When you install this plugin, please keep that in mind and don’t blame the developers of X-Plane, FlyWithLua or me, if the above said should happen!
What are the main features of 3jLib1?
– Graphical user interface with window management
– Nice and easy to use
– Simply add gui elements to windows: texts (with word-wrap!), labels, buttons, numeric inputs
– Complete management of user settings (define parameters with default, min, max, step, …)
– Settings dialogue(s) can be easily built to let the user configure your plugin
– You can define callback functions for any user setting (on change)
– User settings can be saved to .prf files (global and/or per plane), manually or automatic
– Alert boxes
– Some useful helper functions (file_exists, get_file_size, file_copy, trim, string split, …)
How to install (X-Plane 10)?
Download ‘jjjLib1.lua’ and simply copy it to ‘…/X-Plane 10/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Modules/’ folder. Do not copy it to FlyWithLua’s scripts folder. If you don’t have FlyWithLua installed, you find it here via this link at X-=Plained.Com.
How to install (X-Plane 11)?
Download ‘jjjLib1.lua’ and simply copy it to ‘…/X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Modules/’ folder. Do not copy it to FlyWithLua’s scripts folder. If you don’t have FlyWithLua installed, you find it here via this link at X-=Plained.Com.
The library was tested with X-Plane 10.45, 10.50 and 10.51, Windows 7 and Windows 8, FlyWithLua 2.4.3. It is supposed to work with all 10.xx versions of X-Plane and any operating system. If it does not work, please use the comments section below and describe the Problem, I’ll be happy to help. Don’t forget to write your X-Plane version, operating system and version of FlyWithLua.
You are no plugin developer?
Then you can stop reading here and enjoy your new plugin!
Do you develop FlyWithLua plugins?
If you want to use the library for your own FWL plugins, you are welcome to do it. Unfortunately I have not found the time (until now) to write a documentation and/or sample projects. Sorry for that… If you consider using it or for any questions or feedback, please use the comments section here. If you should publish a plugin that requires 3jLib1, please do not include the jjjLib1.lua file in your download. Request the users to download it from here. That avoids having different versions of the library published. I may update the library for bug fixes or new features. I will not remove or change existing features, so compatibility will be ensured.
DONATION to Jörn-Jören Jörensön:
It took me many, many hours neglecting my job and tons of chocolate to keep me awake to program this plugin. I did it for fun and to give something to the great X-Plane community. If you really like my work and you have a few bucks to give, you’re very welcome to make a little donation via PayPal -> https://www.paypal.me/joeren.
