On behalf of Stick and Rudder Studios we’re pleased to share with you the following news ……

We are currently working on a new offering in collaboration with LiveATC.net. This new product will be a set of audio clips that have been extracted from the LiveATC.net audio archives that have been edited and classified as follows:

  • Clips are broken into full ATC / Pilot exchanges
  • Audio is edited to remove any glaring location specific information. “United 6626 Boston Tower, line up and wait” is changed to “United 6626 Tower, line up and wait”
  • Each clip is classified by the ATC controller, Clearance, Ground, Tower, Departure, Center, Approach, or Unicom
  • Clips are organized by region of the world

The resulting set of clips can be used by ATC programs like Pilot2ATC that have a built-in ability to play audio clips based on which controller you are currently tuned to.

The final product will also include a player for X-Plane that can playback the clips if you are not using an add-on like Pilot2ATC. The player will also have an open API so that other ATC / Traffic programs can control the playback.

Currently we have the licensing agreement in place with LiveATC.net and we have collected approximately 600 clips mostly for the United States. We believe that the clips and player will be available in the December / January time frame.

The reason we are letting you know about this now is that we are looking for volunteers to help in collecting and editing the clips. Collecting and editing the archives is a bit tedious and our hope is that having a small team of volunteers to help will go a long way to getting a larger collection of chatter files quickly. As a volunteer you will get access to all the current clips once you have submitted a certain number of high quality clips. Volunteers will also get a free license for the player along with free updates through June of 2019.

You can read more about the volunteer program here. The site also includes a detailed YouTube video showing you what is involved in creating these clips and it has more information about how you can get involved.
