It doesn’t feel good to do this, but it seems others don’t bother about it … copy protect our X-Plained.Com data!
It’s these days quite common and it seems to be normal too, that website contents getting stolen by others to fill their website or using for one time our screenshots. I think this is not the way it works knowing that others don’t bother to do what. Setting up the contents of our website is a lot of work, writing reviews is something personal and not only for me, but also the reviews from Rick and Jude and the contents from Fred and Marc.
It turns out that the X-Plained.Com contents seems an interesting source for others to borrow for a while our contents without letting us know. Yes, yes, I’m aware .. some will say ….. that’s normal these days, but it isn’t normal. Therefore, we’ve decided that there’s a need to protect the contents of X-Plained.Com.
When for some reason, although I have tested every corner of the site, something doesn’t work anymore, please let us know ASAP.
Hi Angelique
sadly I have to agree with Mark and suggest an alternative. I value the X-plained site and content highly, and will often select sections of text relevant to me to ‘print’ to a virtual pdf printer for local storage on my PC. This for local and repetitive viewing for my own personal & private use as a simmer. Now I must print the whole article which includes the ‘non-relevant’ portion as well, while agreeing totally that your work must be protected and used publically only with agreement and acknowledgement .
An alternative suggestion: revert to the prior site management, but enlist users to notify examples of plagiarism in addition to your own surveillance and then publish a ‘listing of shame’ in each newsletter so that those who would do this are identifiable. I would not value a blog / purchase from a site that effectively is stealing content, and hope that a majority would feel this way.
Regards, and thanks.
Some use airports made by other people in order to implement their ATC system without even asking. They say they don’t infringe upon third party copyrights, but in reality they create exclusion zones around some of your DSF assets, (…) X-LIFE trolls.
Hi Angelique,
As much as I agree with your reasoning, I don’t think those measures will help much.
Effectively you just prevent the context menu from appearing and disallow selecting text. Both can easily be circumvented with any browser, in one case as simple as with a simple click! This maybe deters the casual thief, but someone who’s determined can’t be stopped.
By the way: Pasting text in this form does not work anymore 😉
Mike
