Attention, attention to all of You … “Reminder …. X-Plained.Com preferred dimensions” which is by the way optimised / preferred of a screen resolution of 2560 (width) x1440 (height) pixels, but I think there’s need to highlight this. Not that I have had many issues about this, I thought it would be a good idea to clarify this.
X-Plained.Com is a WordPress based website with added to it an awesome template named Divi from Elegant Themes. Although this is the starting point, many things needed to be changed, added or coded to get the look and feel as it is now.
One of the decisions to be made is the website dimension, keeping in mind the optimum monitor resolution of others and of mine. I have an iMac 27 inch which has a native width of 2560 pixels. OK, nice to know, but I can imagine that not everybody has a 27 inch monitor nor a width of 2560 pixels.
Perhaps some have even more pixels, some have less pixels. To cover this, the website contents has a maximum width of 1280 pixels. That said, the website contents is applicable to the three columns. All the rest is filling the page. So on a computer monitor you can always read the contents till a monitor resolution of 1280 pixels. When you have e.g. a monitor with a width of 1024 pixels, then you see a scrollbar, but I think that’s not the case anymore. Adding to this, only simmers who have a width of 2560 pixels see the fullwidth sliders as they are. Any monitor less this 2560 pixels cuts off these fullwidth sliders pictures symmetrically from the left and right. Sorry, that’s the way it is!
Which web browsers can be used? As it looks now, every browser I know. That are for Windows/Mac computers:
– Microsoft Edge (not available for macOS)
– Mozilla Firefox
– Google Chrome
– Opera
– Vivaldi
– Brave
– Safari (not available for Windows)
That said, X-Plained.com is primary designed for viewing on a monitor although it is also for tablets and SmartPhones although you can imagine that lots of pictures are cutoff due to the lower dimensions.
Well the monitor that I’m staring at right now is a 19′, which is set a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels. I understand this is width x height, is that correct?
Width is then indeed 1280 pixels, height is 1024 which isn’t a problem. What I added to it, I assume you’re having Windows, with the browser and X-Plained in view, you can try to use the keyboard keys “Ctrl” and “-“. When you do this one click, or twice, I think you can reduce the size of what you see thus you’ll get access to all foldable menu’s.
I can read the contents on a monitor with a resolution of 1280 pixels, but some of the sections that unfold off the top menu are not accessible using this width. Maybe you could keep the amount of nested menus to a minimum. Thanks!
You have a width of 1280 pixels?
Did a quick test on my iMac 27″; with a width of 1600 pixels, I can still see all the folded 4th menu’s. I also checked on my MBP and reduced the width to 1440 pixels, and then still I can see the 4th menu, but – I don’t have a native 1440 display on my MBP – I think you can always use the keyboard combinations “Ctrl + -” (Windows) or “Cmd + -” (Mac) to reduce the screen of your browser.
Thanks, the Ctrl+- on Windows did the trick.
Glad to hear.
