W75 Hummel Field
W75 Hummel Field, Virginia USA is located on the picturesque Chesapeake Bay with a rather challenging short runway which is especially interesting on hot Virginia days. W75 is also home of Bay Aviation’s fully restored PT-19.
The Story:
Last Summer I received permission to take pictures of the airport. Armed with a couple of Nikon’s, I must have taken over 1000 photos. Slowly but surely, I started building every structure in 3D.
The result: over 70 custom objects.
I included the neighboring shopping centers, local business, restaurants and hotels. The fun did not stop here! I had a hard time finding the right equipment. Thus back on the drawing board.
I rendered at least another 100 objects, including barrels, crates, boats, junked airplanes, engine hoists, 2013 Ford Focus, Land Rover, U-Haul truck, 2012 E350, Taxi, vending machines and the list goes on and on.
Playing with lights I managed to build a road construction with flashing lights and a Ford tractor with flashing warning lights.
Almost done?
I could not find blooming mimosa and crepe myrtle trees, so created them to. The ortho photos are a mix of my own areal pictures and USGS.
